Wood Type - American Black Walnut (other species available upon request)

Finish - A walnut colored stain is applied to even out the tone, then after sealing, two coats of satin gloss catalyzed lacquer are applied.

  • Base 30" (76cm) wide x 30" (76cm) deep
  • Overall height in closed position 87" (221cm)
  • Overall height with main frame fully cranked up and sliding frame fully extended 164" (416cm)
  • Maximum height capacity for paintings 109" (277cm) (setting on sliding tray) heigth a capacity of 156" (396cm) is attainable.
  • Minimum height capacity in main clamping frame is 53" (135cm). Any painting below this height can be secured by using an auxiliary stay, which is inserted into the center guide rail tracks in the clamping frame. Two sizes are standard with easel 1 1/4" (4cm) & 3" (8cm). Custom sizes are available upon request.
  • The bottom painting tray and the top clamping frame tray standard depth is 3" (8cm). Custom sizes are available upon request.

  • The main frame and base of the easel is mortise and tenon construction, a time honored joinery technique to guarantee generations of use.
  • All other frames are splined or doweled.
  • The tongue and groove tracks on the sliding frames are precisely fitted and then waxed to ensure smooth operation.

Mechanical

  • Main frame cranks up and down utilizing a 3-1 gear ratio. The 3/4" acme threaded rod allows smooth cranking.
  • Tilting frame cranks out 5º beyond vertical.
  • The crank handle for A & B is easily removed. A ratchet type ball-socket connection holds handle firmly in place while in use but allows quick disconnect.
  • The clamping frame goes up and down via rope and pulley system. The use of a jamb cleat on the underside of the tray allows the clamping frame to be locked into a raised position until the painting is in place on the easel. Then the frame can be lowered to secure the painting.
  • Click to enlargeOn the backside of the main frame this model features a tray that slides up and down manually locking into notched cut into a brass track (primarily used for small paintings).
  • Locking ball casters provide flexibility and stability.
  • A bronze leveling screw attached to one caster compensates for irregularities in the floor.
