  • The base of the easel is put together with mortise and tenon joinery to ensure stability.
  • The main frame posts are notched into the outer base runner and bolted through. This flexible, yet strong joinery allows the easel to be shipped in a flat crate which reduces shipping costs. To assemble simply slide the main frame assembly into the notch in the base, insert the bolts and tighten the locking cap nuts.
  • All the sliding frames are precisely machined and fitted to tolerances that allow proper movement. The track grooves are then waxed to ensure smooth operation.

Mechanical

  • Main frame cranks up and down utilizing a 3-1 gear ratio. The 3/4" acme threaded rod allows smooth cranking.
  • The crank handle is easily removed. A ratchet type ball-socket connection holds handle firmly in place while in use, but allows quick disconnect.
  • The clamping frame goes up and down via a rope and pulley system. The use of a jamb cleat on the underside of the tray allows the clamping frame to be locked into a raised position until the painting is in place on the easel. Then the frame can be lowered to secure the painting.
  • Locking ball casters provide flexibility and stability.

The CE300 can be made into a double sided easel by the addition of a second set of grooves in the main frame posts and adding another sliding assembly. All the features mentioned above would apply to the second assembly. This feature can be especially useful where studio space is at a premium.
