A well built Georgian Style home in a beautiful
old neighborhood dotted with mature oak trees, suffered from
a lack of interior architectural panache. Working with the
clients interior designer, we combined rich, textural wood
choices, and a contrasting color palette to completely rework
the homes' interior look.
The staircase combined Brazilian
cherry treads, almost ebony in color, with contrasting risers
made from sapele with pommele figuring.. The wainscot combined
American Black Walnut framing, also stained and glazed dark,
book matched Eucalyptus Burl panels, and a dado rail of the
Sapele Pommele to tie it in with the staircase risers.
A door built into the wainscot,
downplays its presence on the wall when closed. A powder room
behind reveals itself, and a mural, painted by the designer,
is featured on the inside face of the door.
The double entry door and
the door to the master bedroom at the top of the staircase,
provide a stunning view from either vantage point on the stair.
Both sets of doors are made from Mahogany, and feature Eucalyptus
burl panels trimmed in ebonized Costello, a straight grained
wood, which is easily dyed to a uniform color.
