The interior design team, Lee / Wimpenny,
had been commissioned to find as many pieces of classic furniture
as they could to outfit a newly renovated office space. Among
their many unusual finds, was an ensemble of 1940's French
furniture including a bar cabinet and a group of tables. The
tables were to be used individually or grouped together to
form a long conference table. In the end they were one table
short of the full compliment they needed to seat everyone.
It became our task to replicate the oak tables.
The table top is rift sawn
white oak, with an inlay star design as the focal point. The
table base features a most unusual reeded "comb"
design. We matched the finish of the original pieces by combining
a base coat of yellow dye stain, with a warmer, light brown
top coat . When mixed in with the originals, the new table
blended in nicely.
